Davis Langdon PKS is now over 150 years old. It was founded in 1860 with just one partner, Benjamin Patterson. The name has evolved as the firm grew in size and importance, becoming Patterson & Kempster in 1872, Patterson, Kempster & Shortall in1970, and Davis Langdon PKS in 2002.
The firm is probably unique, as a commercial one, in having very detailed records retained since 1860, even down to the level of the partners expenses for food day by day! These records formed the base for the Irish Architectural Archive when they were transferred to it in 1980. Later they were used by Gordon Aston for his research when writing 100 years of Quantity Surveying the Annals of Patterson Kempster & Shortall, published in 2007.
In the present volume Michael Webb, himself a partner in the firm with Aston, has built on Aston's work to cover the period up to 2010, when Davis Langdon, as it had now become, celebrated 150 years in business. He has also provided a synopsis of the first 100 years, which Aston covered in depth.
